Join the Bigkanu trimaran for a unique adventure cruise in Raja Ampat. The advantage of a shallow draft means that the Bigkanu liveaboard can go places other boats can't. This means gliding through the jungle-lined passage between Gam and Waigeo islands, backing onto sandy beaches or sliding alongside a village jetty. The boat was designed specifically to tuck into the bays, beaches and islets close to the shore of Raja Ampat, taking guests to places very few people see. The boat is generally backed up to a beach or jetty, giving an advantage of the freedom to wander, snorkel, swim, paddle off on a SUP or kayak or stroll through a local village at sunset without a return deadline.

It can accomodate up to 12 guests in 10 bunk cabins.  All our trips are All Inclusive with Full Board Meal Plan.  Excursions include snorkeling, trekking, SUP Boards, 2 dinghy tenders and more.

The Mithral Marine Tribrid RD 24 'Bigkanu' is unlike any other boat, designed to be super inexpensive to run and maintain, with tiny fuel use, built with a robust

Australian/Kiwi/Indonesian engineered, all alloy hull and cabin. The focus is on self-sufficiency, performance and long distance passage making at low cost for commercial purposes and holiday adventures

Her Lateen rig and efficient 110hp Yanmar engine give her an incredible range of 2000 nautical miles at very low cost. The rig is easy to handle, she self tacks and cruises at 10 knots with stability and ease whilst fully loaded.

Accommodation comprises 12 guest bunks and 4 crew bunks with a full commercial kitchen

General Information

BigKanu is a Lateen rigged motor-sailor with rig suspended in an A frame for powerful sail boost power. She is designed to make long distance headway as a motor sailor with small fuel use. She is robust and stable due to her alloy build and low center of gravity. Beaching is possible even on rocky ground as its built tough underneath for this very purpose.

Using her own truck wheel trolleys she can be chain blocked up the beach for maintenance to avoid the cost of slipping a boat with a 12m beam.

110hp Yanmar giving 10-11 knots with low fuel use. Now about 1600 hours use (July 2019). Cruising speed under engine 8 knots

Relaxing exploration of heavenly Komodo archipelago islands

1. Diverse activities including snorkelling, SUP, hiking, learning about wildlife 2. All the islands visited were isolated, pristine and had beautiful clear waters and reefs 3. Staff and service provided were excellent.

A very awesome boat trip

The boat trip with Bulan Purnama exceeded all our expectations. We were only two couples and five crew on this beautiful vessel so it almost felt like a private ship :-) Tinae was the most awesome cruise director and guide and knows the area very well. The crew in general was very accommodating and did their uttermost best to comfort us. Great food too, thanks again Andy, you’re a real chef! Highly recommended.

Best Trip of My Life!

My wife and I had an amazing trip with the crew of the Bulan Purnama! We originally feared for the worst due to a forecast of rain the entire time we were on the boat. Magically out to sea the clouds disappeared and we had the most beautiful sailing trip around Komodo National Park. We found many islands to trek to the top of and the best coral reefs I have ever seen! There were manta rays, sea turtles, and all kinds of beautiful sea creatures. The food provided on board was excellent and has not been matched by any restaurant or warung throughout our whole Indonesian trip. Andi was incredibly accommodating in the menu and took our request for more chilies with a smile. The crew were extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the area, the weather patterns, the sea, and where to find the mantas which was very lucky on our trip! I can’t recommend the trip highly enough.
